"I've just finished witnessing the swearing in of [Barack Obama] and the only thing that comes to mind right now is, 'What can we not do?" says [Pollard].

"I was actually surprised myself by being overwhelmed with emotion at a particular point and I didn't think I would be," says Rosemary Sadlier, the president of the Ontario Black History Society. "Like many people I never expected to see the election of an African American to the presidency of the United States in my lifetime. The fact that it actually happened was one thing and as he made his procession towards the podium in order to take his oath, it really got to me."

"I brought my kids in just so they themselves can get the significance of this auspicious moment in our lives," [Carl Cassell] says. "...I want my kids around me. I want my wife around me. I want that whole experience to just course through my veins, just for one day."
