The best of the Festival of the Performing Arts (dance, speech, drama and music) is showcased in the Jamaica Cultural Development Corporation's (JCDC) annual Mello Go Roun' during the Independence holidays.

Independence 42; the History of Our Festival

JAMAICAN CREATIVITY and cultural awareness across socio-economic levels reaches its peak in the months approaching Independence every year. The period marks the finals of the national festival competition.

It was in 1963, one year after the success of the Independence Festival, that the Festival Office was established in the Ministry of Development and Welfare.
