Summary

CHICAGO, IL: TO CELEBRATE the upcoming 43rd Anniversary of Jamaica's Independence, the Jamaica Tourist Board is teaming with the City of Chicago, Hard Rock Café Chicago and the city's largest Jamaican organisations to present 'Jamaica Week' from August 1 through August 6, 2005. Festivities began with a reggae bash at Hard Rock Café on July 29 at 10 p.m., followed by a cultural event at Daley Plaza on August 1 at 11:30 a.m.

"Jamaica's message of 'one love' is very much in keeping with our motto of 'love all, serve all,' and everyone loves the positive, fun energy of reggae," said Nevin Hofing, general manager, Hard Rock Café Chicago. "We're excited about teaming with the Jamaica Tourist Board to celebrate Independence, while continuing to give our customers new rock 'n' roll experiences."

Jamaican Independence Day celebrations continued at Daley Plaza on August 1 at 11:30 am. Official celemonies began with a reading of the official proclamation from the Mayor's office declaring 'Jamaica Week in Chicago.' The program featured performances by Ainsworth Rose, a Jamaican one-man band, and the West Indian Folk Dance Company performed authentic Jamaican dances.
