Sprint Champion Richards Grateful for Jamaican Roots

Summary

"I think I have the best of both world, so I enjoy when they say Jamaica is the sprint capital or the US is the top nation in the world ... I think I fit into both, so it's always a warm feeling for me and I am always proud of the Jamaican athletes," added [Sanya Richards].

Usain Bolt stunned the world in 2008, first breaking fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell's then world record of 9.74 by running 9.72 in New York. Bolt returned to take the Olympic sprint double in 9.69 and 19.30, both world record marks. A year later at the World Championships in Berlin, he lowered those marks to 9.58 and 19.19. He was also part of the Jamaica 4x100m relay team, which ran 37.10 for the current world record in Beijing.

"Its just incredible to see how many fast guys and world champions coming out of Jamaica on the men's and women's side ... I am very for that, I am very proud to have been born in Jamaica and I always said I felt I got the best of both worlds."
