Trinidadians Honour Eminent Nationals

Under the distinguished patronage of the Honorable Terrance A. Lougheede Walker, Consul General for the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, New York, Trinidad & Tobago Independence Celebrations, Inc. (TATIC), and Honorary Chairperson Her Excellence Marina Valere, Ambassador to Washington, D.C. for The Republic, will honor six eminent Trinidad & Tobago nationals who have made outstanding contributions to their nation at home or abroad on Saturday, August 21, 2004 from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the 42nd annual Trinidad & Tobago Independence anniversary ball.

According to [Horace L. Morancie], who also serves as the group's PRO, the Independence Anniversary Ball began in 1962 to commemorate the newly-minted independent nation of Trinidad & Tobago. From 1962 until 1998, the ball was hosted by the Trinidad & Tobago United Cultural Association, Inc. (TATUCA), an organization inaugurated by 10 Trinidad & Tobago nationals affiliated with the United Nations. In 1998 the management of TATUCA met with Consul General Walker and formed the Trinidad & Tobago Independence Ball, Inc.
